I believe that I must teach myself to love myself, regardless of how others may choose to see me

Because I am a Girl I ask … myself whether I am safe at night.

Because I am a Girl I believe … that I must teach myself to love myself, regardless of how others may choose to see me.

Because I am a Girl I hope … to find someone beautiful to share my life with, or some of it at least, but in the meantime I’ll be living it to the full.

Because I am a Girl I wonder … what makes so many men so capable of such ugly cruelty, and others such kindness and beauty.

Because I am a Girl I dream … of independence, of self-agency, of having a voice

Because I am a Girl I remember … that a smile from an open heart can be powerful.

Because I am a Girl I like … to dance, and cook, and sing, and write, and laugh. But not necessarily in that order.

Because I am a Girl I dislike … being made invisible.

Because I am a Girl I feel … that women have so much to offer this world, and each other in particular.

Because I am a Girl I celebrate… the potential in each one of us, regardless of our gender.
