Because I am a Girl I ask … that women today remember we have future generations of young women growing up behind us and that the seeds we sow now are what they will reap in the future.
Because I am a Girl I believe …in equality of opportunity, but also in accepting and embracing the unique qualities we as women have. Please don’t through the baby out with the bathwater!
Because I am a Girl I hope … we will reach a day when women are less judgemental of each other – and accept each other’s life choices.
Because I am a Girl I wonder … what it would be like to be a man for a day – and pee standing up.
Because I am a Girl I dream … of romance and happy endings. I can’t help it. I bought into the Cinderella story a long time ago.
Because I am a Girl I remember … what it was like to never feel pretty enough as a teen and young woman because the magazines defined pretty for me.
Because I am a Girl I like … to listen to empowering cheesy pop music and occasionally pretend I am Beyoncé.
Because I am a Girl I dislike … that I’m not always taken seriously in my profession, despite my credentials. I was once described by a male colleague as “his favourite wee typist”. That was a month after I graduated, first in my class, with a Masters Degree in Journalism.
Because I am a Girl I feel … that when we work together, and not against each other, women really can move mountains.
Because I am a Girl I celebrate…the friendships I share with my female friends – and how empowered we can feel in each other’s company.
