I was three years old when I suddenly lost my mother. She was brought into hospital and died of heart failure. I missed her very much and I had a hard life without her. I grew up angry and confused. I was 33 when I became a mother myself. The same age my mother was when she died.
Because I am a Girl I ask…you to come to the photo exhibition to give thought to the position females have in this world. To give it thought in a non-judgmental, clear and positive way.
Because I am a Girl I believe… that there is always hope for everyone, everywhere. I would give my own power away I would give up on this idea.
Because I am a Girl I hope… for all girls to have the opportunities and hope that life has given me, and the help that I was given throughout my life.
Because I am a Girl I wonder… if there will ever be an acknowledgement of, and universal degree of respect for, females all over the world.
Because I am a Girl I dream… of living a life beyond my wildest dreams.
Because I am a Girl I remember… the prejudices I had to fight against, which were holding me back before I even knew what they were.
Because I am a Girl I like… running up the hill smelling the fresh grass under my bare feet, enjoying the sun and the laughter.
Because I am a Girl I dislike… the dark clouds that make me feel powerless.
Because I am a Girl I feel… that we can overcome the shadows in our life, simply by changing our thoughts and sharing our ideas.
Because I am a Girl I celebrate… my life today, with my friends and with my daughters, because the most important of all in life is the band we have with others regardless of gender.
