Because I am a girl I ask… why the world is not at peace. I can’t fathom the creation of wars and the need to use violence against our fellow human beings.
Because I am a girl I believe… that every single person, across all walks of life is equal. I believe that everyone should be treated the way they want to be treated.
Because I am a girl I hope… for equality for everyone. Even today in Ireland women are not equal to men. Often women are over looked for senior positions in favor of men and a gender income difference is still at large. I hope that someday these barriers will be abolished and inequality will become a thing of the past. I hope for a world where girls have access to a quality education, giving them the power to support themselves and provide for their families.
Because I am a girl I wonder… why there is a culture around the world where it is deemed acceptable to pass negative comments on other people. I don’t think people are aware of how their negative comments can affect those around them. As human beings we should be more positive towards everyone meet.
Because I am a girl I dream… that one-day women will be treated with respect and dignity in every country in the world. Women are excellent at multi-tasking and are expected to manage both a career and family. I think the Governments of the world should offer more flexi-days so there is less pressure on women. Allowing them to be both mothers and have a career if desired. I dream of a world where we have perfect harmony, where women are represented equally in all governments around the world.
Because I am a girl I remember… buying my first album. A Blondie album, of course! I remember how cool and carefree she was. I look at her today, at the age of 69 and see she is still young at heart. I think it’s important to stay young at heart forever.
Because I am a girl I like… dressing up! Dressing up for special occasions, I love to feel feminine.
Because I am a girl I dislike… the prejudice that exists solely because I am a woman. The need for men to pass gender based sexual remarks.
Because I am a girl I feel… emotions. I think women are more sensitive to other people’s feelings and tend to be more compassionate. Once you have children you develop a deeper sense of compassion and empathy.
Because I am a girl I celebrate… life and being able to create life. I have two amazing children who I am constantly learning from everyday. They create a sense of newness and allow you to see the world in a whole new light.
