Because I am a Girl I dream that being called a “good girl” by men will stop
Linda Conway is fashion editor at Stellar magazine and a freelance stylist.
Because I am a Girl I ask … Why working in fashion is often considered frivolous.
Because I am a Girl I believe … that crying at sad movies (and videos of puppies) doesn’t mean I’m weak.
Because I am a Girl I hope … Young girls will one day grow up in a culture where both girls and boys are educated about equality and respectful of one another.
Because I am a Girl I wonder … What life would be like if I was a boy.
Because I am a Girl I dream … That being called a “good girl” by men will stop.
Because I am a Girl I remember … My parents always telling me that I could – and would – achieve my dreams, and never cautioning or restricting me because of my gender.
Because I am a Girl I like … Strong feminists, who are opinionated and vocal and unafraid to air their views.
Because I am a Girl I dislike … Violence – and I wish that wasn’t a gendered preference.
Because I am a Girl I feel … Inspired by successful businesswomen who are blazing a trail and paving the way for a generation without gender limits.
Because I am a Girl I celebrate… My many clothing options; men just seem to wear jeans and jumpers 24/7.
