Journalist and Food Blogger

Úna-Minh Kavanagh is a 21-year-old journalist and food blogger working and living in Dublin’s fair city. Originally from Kerry, she dabbles in all things geeky and cuisine related and has a grá for the Irish Language. She’s also currently on a campaign to tackle racism and mental health stigma in Ireland – two issues close to her heart. Úna has a degree in Irish and Journalism from DCU and now works with Her.ie, having previously worked as a Community Journalist with WorldIrish, a Content Editor with JustEat and an intern journalist with Storyful.

She hopes to one day train as a chef and write her own book full of recipes and stories, with her Mom.

Because I am a Girl I ask … How can I help others today?

Because I am a Girl I believe … That there is good in every single person out there even though it might seem hard to see.

Because I am a Girl I hope … That everyone will experience happiness in their lives.

Because I am a Girl I wonder … Why there are people still out there, who feel the need to belittle, use and undermine others.

Because I am a Girl I dream … Of a day where I can walk down the street and not feel I have to prove myself to others. I am who I am and that to me is Irish.

Because I am a Girl I remember … To remain strong and unafraid at what life throws at you – That sometimes things can get tough but they do pass in the end.

Because I am a Girl I like … My friends, family, my partner and being me!

Because I am a Girl I dislike … General ignorance and the unwillingness of others to embrace a diverse and enriching society. Everyone has the right to be treated equally.

Because I am a Girl I feel … Lucky that I’m alive, inspired and empowered by the women of the world and incredibly proud to be Irish.

Because I am a Girl I celebrate … Being a part of this often crazy but exciting and wonderful world.
