Plan International Ireland manages a number of non-public funded development grants in excess of €10m annually.
These grants are for both emergency / disaster response projects and long term sustainable development programmes and come from a variety of donors, such as EU, Irish Aid, the UN, the World Bank, World Food Programme and many others (large and small).
Each donor has eligibility requirements and conditions including specific contributions, referred to as ‘match’.
For example, the European Union require a 20% – 25% match contribution for certain grants, and anything from 5% – 15% for others. For planning purposes we use a median figure of 10%.
Therefore for a grant portfolio of €10m we would need to factor in a planning figure of match funding of €1m.
The key inhibitor for Plan International Ireland is the difficulty involved in sourcing concrete match funding, blocking us from accessing, or even applying for, these vital grants.
Plan International Ireland is seeking an investor, or a panel of investors, to help us solve this issue and enable us to continue our vital work throughout developing world. Put simply, without match funding, we are hobbled.
With the security of your match funding, Plan International Ireland can leverage x5-10 times the amount you invest directly. Investment in ‘match’ is a guaranteed mechanism of leveraging vital funding to continue our critical work with world’s poorest children.
