Plan has been working in Brazil since 1997, mainly in the states of Maranhão and Pernambuco. Our work is focused in the Northeast – the neediest region of the country – where the child mortality rate is 50% higher than the national average, income almost 40% lower and illiteracy rates more than twice as high.
More than 70,000 children and adolescents participate in about 50 Plan projects focused on ensuring that children access their right to education, protection against violence. health, participation, and economic empowerment.
