At least 4,818 people have died from Ebola since the West African outbreak was first identified eight months ago. Liberia has recorded 2,697 deaths (WHO, 5 November 2014), more than double as many as Guinea or Sierra Leone, the two other heavily affected countries. The epidemic has overwhelmed regional health sectors still struggling to rebuild after years of civil war and turmoil.
