The Philippines - 12 Months On

Post Haiyan, the Philippines is being built back Safer, Stronger and Better

SAFER, STRONGER, BETTER

The day of the 8th November 2013 will forever live in the minds of the people of the Philippines.

On that day, Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest storm to ever make landfall, took the lives of more than 6,200 people and affected over 14 million people across 44 provinces. Five million children were impacted, 1.7 million being displaced.

With schools left inhabitable, coconut trees felled as far as the eye could see and the whole physical infrastructure shot to pieces, Plan committed to rebuilding these communities, ensuring we would still be there, working with communities, long after the TV cameras and pop-up NGOs had left.

A year later, thanks to YOUR generous response and the resilience of the Filipino people the Philippines has built back safer, stronger and better

Plan has set up child friendly spaces in the affected areas where children like Jednel can play in a safe environment. These safe havens allow children to share their stories, play and have fun together – temporarily forgetting their traumatic situation.
