When Disasters Strike,
Plan International is There

We mobilize people and resources quickly when disaster strikes to protect children and ensure their immediate and long-term needs are met.

From natural disasters to conflict zones, we are on-the-ground doing what is needed where it is needed the most.

DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT – OUR GOAL

For children and young people to grow up safely in resilient communities and realize their right to protection and assistance in emergencies.

In times of disaster, children are particularly vulnerable.  Separation from family and friends causes uncertainty, anxiety and shock, with a significant impact on children’s emotional well-being. Our disaster response work focuses on children’s urgent needs, such as food and water. We then prioritize child protection and education, to help re-establish a sense of security and normality.

Lake Chad Crisis

Almost seven years of violent conflict involving the group commonly known as Boko Haram and military operations to counter them has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa. Originating in Nigeria, the violence has spread to neighbouring countries and forced over 2.6 million people to flee their homes, abandon their farms and land.
