An experienced lawyer, Muireann is a former senior NGO leader and a committed Human Rights activist. Muireann joined the Plan International Ireland Board in September 2005.

Muireann O Briain is an experience Irish lawyer with 28 years practice experience at the Irish Bar including 13 years as the Legal Advisor to the Labour Court.

In 1998. Muireann took up  the full-time position as Executive Director of ECPAT International. Upon her return to Ireland in 2002, Muireann was appointed as the Director of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

Since 2004 has worked as the Legal Manager of St. James’s Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in Ireland.

Throughout her career, Muireann has provided consultancy and advisory work on human rights and children’s rights to several NGOs, and has contributed to numerous publications and teaching materials. Muireann was a member of the European Commission Expert Group on Trafficking in Human Beings from 2008-2011.
