Mahbub joined Plan International Ireland in April 2019 and is the disability and inclusion focal person. An anthropology graduate, Mahbub has many years’ experience in the development sector, particularly supporting persons with disabilities and other minority communities.
Whilst working in Bangladesh, he chaired UNCRPD committee at the national disability forum (NFOWD) which successfully lobbied for full ratification of UNCRPD and changing rules and policies on disability. Mahbub is a key supporter of Bangladesh Blind Cricket Council, National Association of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (NASPD) and served on national NGOs as a board member.
Mahbub moved to Ireland in 2009 to take up a research position and he has worked for the Institute of Minority Entrepreneurship (IME), where he carried out research and advocacy initiatives on disability entrepreneurship and minority entrepreneurship.
At Plan International Ireland, Mahbub implements the Plan2Inclusivize programme – an innovative approach that uses sport as a medium to promote social and educational inclusion.
