Nyateika's journey from South Sudan to Ethiopia

Forced to flee her country, Nyateika is now living in a refugee camp in Ethiopia.

When I arrived here, I was very sick and there was nothing around for me to do except cook, grind maize and look for water.

There were no motivational materials at home because the war was displacing people from their home in South Sudan; we were faced with different challenges.

Before there were no learning materials to use and no safe place where I could learn and play with my friends. With ECCD being implemented in the camp, we now have lots of different playing materials and four classrooms.

After only a couple of months, I am now able to read and write the English alphabet, count numbers, draw and paint different pictures.

Now I am very happy. I can see myself having a future – maybe I will become a teacher!
