Empowering Human Rights Defenders and Young People to Fight GBV

Plan International Ireland is delighted to announce a new partnership with the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and Plan International Guinea-Bissau has launched the new project “Empowering Human Rights Defenders and Young People to Fight Gender-Based Violence in Guinea-Bissau, funded by The United Nations Democracy Fund. The United Nations Democracy Fund supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes.

This two year project will work with Human Rights Defenders (HRD),  young people and duty bearers from two regions, Bafatu and Gabu, of Guinea-Bissau. The aim of this intervention is to build the capacity of these agents of change to be the driving forces within their communities in promoting the rights of girls and women and reducing the practice of FGM.  HRDs and young people will be provided with skills and knowledge to actively participate in decision-making processes and policy implementation to end gender based violence, particularly the practice of FGM.
