Maria joined Plan in March 2017 with over 10 years’ experience in technical advice, research and programme management in long term development work in Africa and Asia. She has specialised in the linked areas of youth and women’s economic empowerment, livelihoods, gender analysis, social protection, and private sector development.

Before moving to West Africa in 2006, Maria was programme manager for rural, urban, and reconciliation themed youth work in Ireland and London, and was strategic partnership advisor to local government and public services in London.

Maria has a BA(hons) in Peace and Conflict Studies from University of Ulster, and a Masters in Development and Anthropology from London School of Economics.

Maria enjoys yoga, jazz and human rights activism in Ireland in her spare time.
